Watch out for the Easter Eggs
They might taste great but unless we do some additional exercise we’re going to be seeing those Easter eggs on our bodies. With the average Easter egg containing 530 calories & more like 1,000 calories with chocolate treats found in the middle be prepared to work hard! Here’s a few examples of what you would need to do
1 Run at a constant speed of 7mph for an hour (that’s the equivalent of an 8.5-minute mile) and you’ll burn 833 cals. If that’s too fast for you then drop your speed to 5mph (or a 12-minute mile) & you’ll burn around 600 cals.
2 Playing squash will burn around 800 cals an hour or try tennis: A singles match will burn 450 cals an hour.
3 An hour of swimming is a great calorie-burner. Continuous butterfly burns around 1000 cals. Continuous breast-stroke at a reasonably fast pace burns around 750, front crawl 700; backstroke 600 and a leisurely swim 400.
4 A leisurely cycle ride will burn about 350 cals an hour, but speed it up & you could hit around the 600 mark.
5 Enjoying a walk at 3mph (the equivalent of a 20-minute mile) burns around 300 cals an hour, but find some hills and you could increase that to around 425 cals.
6 Get stuck into the housework: Cleaning, vigorous vacuuming, scrubbing, moving furniture and lifting boxes can add up to around 450 calories an hour if done continuously and at speed.
7 If you have a garden, get out in it. Doing the odd bit of weeding & potting won’t get you far, but hoeing, digging, raking leaves & moving pots & bags of compost for 60 minutes will help you burn around 350 calories an hour.
8 If you just can’t motivate yourself to exercise then what about having an early night with your partner? Kissing burns anywhere between 50 & 100 calories an hour, depending how passionate you are, whilst moderate to vigorous sexual activity can burn up to 400 calories an hour.

Bag 90g bag of mini eggs – 444 calories = A 50 minute Zumba step class
1 crème egg – 177 calories = 19 minutes of skipping
Smarties egg – 626 calories = 3 x 30 minute exercise classes
KitKat chunky egg – 836 calories = 3 x 45 minute exercise classes
